Honestly

Today, I read one of my favorite chapters in the Bible, and I want to share it with you. It’s Psalms 32.

This psalm was written by David, and my favorite verse is 2, “Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.” Here’s my take on this verse…God wants for us to just be honest with Him. Confession is honesty…opening up and saying “God, I’m imperfect, and I need you.” God desires our humility…for us to humble ourselves and say we’ve made a boo-boo (that’s a mistake).

When I’ve said or done something wrong, my first instinct is to cover it up…find a reason for not being at fault. This is pride welling up and looking for a way to hide my imperfections. This is the opposite of what God wants for us to do.

Honesty is the best policy! God, make us honest people who honestly love you!!!

One prevailing thought in this chapter is that David admits he’s sinned, yet through God’s forgiveness, he is still righteous (v. 11), godly (v. 6), and upright in heart (v. 11). He knew His godly character came through God’s forgiveness…it wasn’t a self-righteousness thing. True repentance is being honest with God, confessing your sin, and turning from your sin by making a conscious effort to not repeat it.

Another verse in this chapter that’s great is verse 7, “You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.” Hiding away in God’s presence is our protection.

Find your place of peace, safety, and comfort in prayer and worship…it’s the best place to be.
